And so it begins

The kids had their first soccer games last Saturday! It was very exciting and the emotions were high as they suited up in their fresh new uniforms and discussed the details of choosing the number on their jerseys.
Like lambs to the slaughter we marched out to support our players with only hats, sunblock, and water and sat on astro turf in triple digit weather. It was insanely hot to say the least. Davey cried through most of watching Payton's game and said he couldn't possibly play his own game if it was going to be that hot.

P and J are coming along in their soccer journeys. Jonah's sort of hot/cold with it so far. He has a short attention span for the game when it's not going his way. Trav said he walked off the field when he fell down in his traditional, "I'm outta here" approach. BUT, he's upbeat and excited for his games, and he loves the number "10" on his jersey, so we'll see how it goes!
Payton had a great time at her game. She was super nervous in the beginning. She walked slowly out to her place on the field with her shoulders hunched up, and I didn't know how she'd do. But once she got going she was having fun. She's fast and likes to add some silliness to her game which may backfire on her one day. But in the meantime, she's enjoying herself, so she obeyed the number one rule:).

After Payton and Jonah's morning games we came home, got smart, and set back out for Davey's afternoon game with our big umbrella and our mister and squirt bottle on the ready. For each water break Davey would tumble into his chair in the shade and he'd pound the water while we squirted him down to cool him off. It was like Rocky after each round in a boxing match. The smiles he'd give us after he made a good play were priceless. He's totally into it!
Next Saturday we get to do it all over again, I'm enjoying it so much more than I thought I would. It's great to watch our kids cheer for each other and support one another, and to hang out together. I'm totally hoping we'll have at least one cold game day where we're bundled up watching from the sidelines with mugs of cocoa and tea. Just one.
