Nana, Papa, and Heavy D's B-day

Trav's parents came into town for the weekend to visit and celebrate Davey's birthday with us. It was a whirlwind visit filled with special individual "dates" with Nana and Papa for each of the kids, three soccer games, Davey's birthday dinner, a rowdy game of Uno, and a date night for me and Trav (thank you Sharon and Greg!)

Each of the kids got a "date" with Nana and Papa to go out shopping and get a bite to eat for their birthdays. The kids had a blast and the boys are now completely outfitted to take on Darth Vader and the Evil Empire with all of their light sabers, clone army helmets, and blasters. It is very exciting around our house these days...

The highlight of Davey's birthday was the treasure hunt that "Blackbeard" set up for the kids. Trav dressed up and did this for Payton's birthday last year, and Davey asked for one this year. The kids LOVE it. Trav gets dressed up, does the accent, and the kids go wild. I love that my husband can morph into these ridiculous characters and make us laugh like crazy.

There's lots of screaming and jockeying to find each clue. There's so much thrill and angst in how they work together. It's a hilarious process to watch. Our favorite clue was #9
"Well shiver me timbers! Yer next clue is found in the land of Captain Davey's Underpants. Plug yer noses me hardees!"
All who are privy to the skid mark marathon Davey's on can appreciate this joke.

Davey retrieving a clue from the tree.

The finding of the treasure! It was all over way too quickly.

This is my attempt at a light saber cake. It came out more pastel than I intended, which is usually the case for me in cake decorating. The kids were thrilled, however, and loved helping me decorate it. I love how easy they are to please, such a gift!

What a fun weekend! Monday was a bit of a bummer to wake up back to routine with Nana and Papa gone, but we are back on our game with busy school and soccer schedules. Perhaps our crazy schedule is why I haven't been feeling as homesick lately? There's no time to be sad these days!

I'm trying to decide if your jacket looks better on you or Trav... that cake is the bomb!

Love the picture of the three kiddos together in front of the cake....I love great sibling pictures! I also loved that Trav is sporting your jacket to make his pirate outfit complete. Love reading your blog filled with such great stories and encouraging thoughts about being a mommy. Even miles away you still continue to encourage me!
